My name is Dominique Paige. Im 30 years old from Houston, Tx. I have been a remote freelancer for over 2 years now.
What’s your profession, what do you do?
I am curriculum developer, instructor, graphic designer, and game developer.
What company do you work for? Are you a freelancer or Digital Nomad?
I work for Magkid, Pion Creator, Chasewood Learning, and work with clients through Upwork.com
How did you start with a remote work journey?
It started back in 2020 when I released from my duties from covid-19. I started looking for job online especially ones that involve remote work and curriculum development and game development. When I found a company called TechDevAcademy, I started to teach students online and then I started to look for work on Upwork.com and I was luckily selected to work for a client who looking to make a educational tool for teachers to teach online.
What do you think are the main benefits of working remotely?
Well, you dont have deal with traffic and you can work from home of course.
Do you think there are disadvantages or that you’re missing something by working remotely?
I miss being around people and interacting with co-workers. I feel that sometimes when you work from home you can get distracted sometimes.
From what cities or countries have you worked since you have become remote? What are your favourite countries or cities to work from?
I mostly work remotely in houston, tx however I do express interest in working in other cities.
From what type of places do you prefer to work? Home, co-working spaces, coffee shops, or others?
Either working from home or a personal studio.
What places would you like to travel to while working remotely?
I like work in new york, california, chicago, austin, and overseas as well. Such as london, england and tokyo, japan.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? Share your remote productivity, communication, management, etc. tips based on your experience!
The challenges I face are how to stay on task and not being distracted. The way I can overcome them is by taking necessary breaks, so that way I dont feel that my energy towards the project I work on isnt drained
What tools do you use to improve productivity and manage work efficiently?
The tools I use is a time management system and other plugin-ins that will help me improve the management of all of my current tasks.
How do you manage your business and taxes as a remote working professional?
I use upwork as a time management tool and how to manage all of my projects that I am working on.
What advice would you give to people looking to work remotely?
Make sure you build up your portfolio and linkedin and put yourself out there. Dont be afraid to take chances.
Do you work on any side projects?
I have been working on creating online courses for game development.
