Senior Software Engineer - ML Platform

Square's ML Platform group has one goal: make machine learning at Square easy. Square has over 100 engineers and data scientists building machine learning solutions, and our group's job is to support these efforts. We build model development tools, feature computation infrastructure, and high-scale serving systems to ensure that those trying to use machine learning can spend less time on infrastructure and more time delivering value.

The Machine learning Evaluation team makes ML actionable, i.e., enable actions ("automated decisions") based on a prediction or decision. We make the platform easier to onboard, scalable, and sophisticated to support hundreds of model types and rules capabilities. We build systems to handle the processing load of all payments at Square while also being flexible enough to help data scientists from many teams do their jobs.

We sit in a unique spot as a platform team since we work with data scientists, engineers, and product managers from across the organization. We learn directly from our customers and build software that improves their productivity and capabilities. 

We're looking for engineers to help us continue building Square's ML platform.

You will:

• Build tools and systems that make data scientists happier and more productive

• Build scalable systems that can host and execute hundred of ML models in realtime

• Work with product, data science, and engineering teams throughout the organization to understand their needs and solve their problems.

• Provide technical leadership to architect and design our platform is performant, fault-tolerant, and maintainable.

• Coordinate system design across multiple engineering and ML teams at Square

• Mentor your teammates and assist engineers on other teams who integrate with our platform

• Follow the latest industry trends and constantly look for opportunities for the team 

Technologies you will use:

• Java, Python, GCP, AWS, and Snowflake

• MySQL, Redis, Hibernate, jOOQ, Bigtable, and React

• 8+ years of software engineering experience

• Specialist with experience designing and deploying large-scale distributed systems 

• Experience developing in Java, Ruby, Python, and/or Go.

• Experience in ML technologies  

• Strong experience with cloud (AWS and/or GCP)
