Job Description

The Director of Communications will lead all aspects for ensuring the company communications are aligned and delivered in accordance with Monro’s strategies and goals. The role will lead the transformation from transactional communications to strategic communications through appropriate delivery methods and technologies.  The role will own the transformation to a new communication platform to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of communications. The Director of Communications will lead the communications team and be responsible for a variety of communication activities for a wide range of issues including proactive company communications and internal teammate communications to support the Monro and its brands. The Director of Communications will ensure Monro organizational communications are effectively written and dispatched throughout the company. The role will work closely with senior management as well as operational leadership to manage the successful delivery of relevant and important information.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with operations and the senior leadership team to define overall internal communication needs, develop detailed communication plan, and lead execution of the plan, including Town Halls, PowerPoint presentations, emails, etc.
  • Provide communications expertise and execution support to departments/functions within the business for their initiatives.
  • Prepare communications, often with fast turnaround time. This includes writing, editing and producing a variety of communications for internal audiences.
  • Provide heavy planning and communications support for meetings and other events as they arise.
  • Work with operations to deliver store, district and zone communications.
  • Assist in communications and meeting activities as determined by leadership.
  • Create messaging; reviews and edits content of communications materials to ensure content meets established communications standards and guidelines before publication. Ensures prior approvals are coordinated and obtained prior to any document dissemination.
  • Maintain existing documentation to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Design and maintains user feedback reporting systems and provides actionable insight to ensure optimal communications performance.
  • Keep communications fresh, creative, and engaging.
  • Point of contact for the coordination and delivery of teammate communications, including texts, emails, announcements, videos, etc.
  • Write/create internal communications pieces, including notices, newsletters, announcements, etc. as requested.
  • Promote and assist with planning, coordinating and promoting teammate events.
  • Work collaboratively with SMEs from other departments to develop content for internal communications relevant to their areas.
  • Other relevant duties, as assigned. 

Management Responsibility: 

The Director of Communications will lead, develop, manage and coach the communications team and collaborate with executive leadership team on strategic initiatives of the organization.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, communications, or related field
  • Retail communications experience is preferred
  • Experience in implementing, owning, and leveraging digital workplace platforms is required
  • All prospective employees must pass a background check
  • US citizenship

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proven ability to develop and successfully implement communications strategies
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including ability to present concepts verbally
  • Must possess excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Superior project management and time management skills
  •  A wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media and technologies influencing earned media
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain composure and productivity in projects with multiple owners
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong to expert level of knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including PowerPoint

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

This job operates in a professional office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners and fax machines.  Position requires prolonged periods of sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
