This is an opportunity to join a dynamic legal department and a growing team at a fast-paced company. The Palo Alto Networks Privacy, Product, and Marketing Counseling Team works with all teams across Palo Alto Networks to incorporate privacy and security in everything we do, by providing guidance, education, and tools, to facilitate adoption of our products and to make Palo Alto Networks a trusted brand for privacy and security.
We are seeking a self-starter who enjoys working collaboratively as well as driving high impact projects independently.
This Senior Cybersecurity Counsel position will report to the Vice President, Chief Privacy Officer.
Your Impact
Develop and implement effective standards, policies, and procedures for global incident and data breach planning and response, as well as proactively advise on best practices for addressing product vulnerability issues.
Deliver clear, practical legal and strategic advice to stakeholders across the company, including senior leaders and engineering, information technology, information security teams, and policy and government affairs teams, among others, regarding cybersecurity compliance, incident response, and data privacy and protection.
Lead internal, security-related due diligence efforts and serve as legal liaison to regulatory, law enforcement, government, and national security authorities, providing notifications and responding to audits, investigations, warrants, and subpoenas
Engage cross-functional stakeholders to conduct tabletop exercises, compliance testing, cyber and privacy risk assessments, and third party risk management
Stay up-to-date on relevant U.S. and international laws, regulations, and industry trends, especially those related to cybercrime, cybersecurity, data protection, and data privacy
Develop and deliver training, collateral, and communications on cybersecurity and related topics
Manage outside counsel and consultants, as necessary
Handle special projects as requested
The Legal Team
The Legal team at Palo Alto Networks is a dynamic team that impacts all go-to-market aspects of the business every day. You will work closely with teams from other departments to immerse yourself in the ins and outs of our business to support it from a legal perspective. Our Legal team is an essential resource on a global basis, impacting and driving our products and services. You will tackle ever-evolving cybersecurity threats through collaboration with highly-skilled colleagues across the company and be involved in high impact work that offers the chance to change the future of digital security.
You’re passionate about legalities in a way that drives solutions that appropriately manage risk. You think creatively on the legal team, but with a higher purpose, driven by our mission to protect our digital lives. You approach stakeholders with a customer service mindset. You are excited about addressing the ever-evolving threats we all face on a day-to-day basis as part of an industry leading cybersecurity company.
Your Experience
7+ years of relevant cybersecurity experience in technology or other highly-regulated sector, with government, investigatory, and/or prosecution experience preferred
Qualified to practice, in good standing, in at least one U.S. state with law degree (J.D.) from a reputable law school
In-house experience with managing enterprise-level incident response and data breach planning, response, and notification
Significant experience with advising on domestic and international cybersecurity and data protection laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., NIST Cyber Framework, ISO, Cloud Act, FedRamp, SOC2, etc.)
Skilled at partnering with cross-functional teams, especially Information Security teams and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) (or equivalent)
Experience communicating and negotiating with domestic and international data protection, law enforcement, government, national security, and similar authorities, as well as participating in threat intelligence and information-sharing groups
Experience drafting information security, IT, and/or privacy policies and standards
Working understanding of cloud architecture, network security, Internet of Things (IoT), and /or similar technologies
Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and manage projects and simultaneous tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast–paced environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, business judgment, flexibility, analytical skills, and comfort with ambiguity
