Job Description

This is an opportunity to join one of YouGov’s newest teams – the Civic Data team. The Civic Data team is responsible for YouGov's data platform for governments, institutions and academia. With the Civic Data team, you will not only help produce data for clients all around the world, but you will also work under YouGov’s Public Good aim. You’ll help run showcase data projects to develop public education on a huge range of topics, partner with international institutions taking action on pressing topics such YouGov’s COVID-19 data response or help brief governments on important policy areas.

As a Research Executive you will be responsible for supporting both Civic Data team research requests as well as projects with both existing and new clients and projects, professionally shepherding complex operations from their inception to ultimate delivery.  You will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of organisations, each with their own sets of demands, timescales and idiosyncrasies. As a successful candidate, you will embrace the fast-paced, diverse requests made upon, rapidly learn new skills that you will be able to utilize when the next challenge arises.

Being an emerging team, a large part of your role will be the development and implementation of new propositions, as well as the formation of the global infrastructure that will be required to make the team a success.  You will need to balance the requirements of internal and external stakeholders, creating a network of relationships that make the Civic Data objectives scalable, commercially independent and ultimately deliver a research agenda that enriches the public good. 

What will I be doing day to day?

  • Work with the team to translate an existing network of contacts and ideas into tangible revenue making projects.
  • Work with existing data platforms to enrich bespoke polling and survey projects.
  • Work with a broad range of departments and offices within YouGov’s network to leverage the best solution for clients.
  • Write presentations and create impactful external coms using existing and commissioned data
  • Possess a good understanding of multi-stage sample design, response rates and sample size calculations
  • Recommend an appropriate method of data collection to meet research objectives, design complex questionnaires and specify programmes with minimal guidance and create your own data tables
  • Translate research briefs into an active project
  • Be able to identify and facilitate process efficiencies
  • Identify opportunities for departmental growth
  • Provide support and insight on the direction of developing YouGov’s Civic Data proposition 

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Proven research skills, ideally with political scientific material
  • The capability to communicate with senior figures and professionally challenge assumptions
  • An ability to translate complex data into a storytelling narrative 
  • A desire to develop new ideas and solutions that benefit both YouGov and Civic Society

Qualifications

  • N/A – academic qualifications are not a prerequisite of this position. A prerequisite of this position is an understanding of data and civil society
  • SPSS proficient desirable    
  • Experience in a Political / Governmental environment would be of great benefit
  • Be able to relate to the specific objectives and challenges charity/community-based organisations

This role is flexible – you can choose to work remotely, at our head office in Old Street, or a mixture of the two. Please be aware that the job will primarily be in GMT hours (London, Dublin timezone).
