Taylor & Francis, a leading international academic publishing company, has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Commissioning Editor (Journals) to join the expanding Medicine and Healthcare team. Reporting to the Commissioning Team Manager this role is responsible for the commissioning of content for a set of defined journals within the Medicine & Healthcare Expert Collection Series.
This is an ideal role for someone who has a genuine interest/background in biomedical or biological science, and who enjoys the process of researching relevant scientific literature and commissioning ideas for new articles.
What you'll be doing:
Commissioning high quality and relevant content within a specific therapy area
Delivering content to specified timelines and quality standards according to the strategies and timetables set out by the Commissioning Team Manager
Building and maintaining close relationships with authors, editorial boards and key opinion leaders
Builds detailed knowledge of relevant therapy areas, including key topics of interest and developments in the field
Ensures that peer review is carried out to specific quality standards according to editorial policies and is responsible for decision making on manuscripts using peer review comments and Editorial Board input where necessary
Ensures all relevant guidelines and policies are followed, including editorial policies, ethical policies and disclosure information
Is committed to becoming an expert in a therapy area/ multiple therapy areas and builds own profile in the therapy area(s), through networking, social media and virtual/ in person (when travel is allowed) conference attendance
Become known and trusted by members of the research community in the assigned therapy area(s)
What we're looking for:
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Creativity and a genuine curiosity for the Medicine and Healthcare industry
Experience with problem solving, initiating debate, ensuring ideas are explored and implemented if appropriate
Excellent team-working skills
Drive for results and a self-starter
Strong independent time management and ability to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines
Excellent organisational skills

Team & Culture
The Medicine and Health Commissioning team is a large and friendly team with 3 Commissioning Team Managers who each oversee 4-5 Commissioning Editors. There is lots of space for personal growth and development within the Commissioning Editor Role, but also within the wider company of Taylor & Francis.
