Company Description

Shopify’s mission is to make commerce better for everyone. From building a new product feature for our commerce platform, to helping a merchant troubleshoot an issue over the phone, we want to empower our ecosystem through our work.

Having a unified vision, a north star, is vitally important to ensure that we are all headed in the same direction. No matter the size or experience, we want to power every merchant’s experience. This is why we’re all here.

Shopify is now permanently remote, and we’re working towards a future that is digital by design. That location you see above? Consider it merely an example of hundreds of potential locations across EMEA where Shopify is hiring. Learn more here: https://www.shopify.com/careers/work-anywhere

Job Description

The EMEA Business Development team’s mission is to develop new merchant acquisition funnels and revenue growth opportunities with external organisations, to advance Shopify’s market share in EMEA.  Our goal is to rapidly increase Shopify’s footprint in key EMEA markets and improve the value we deliver for our merchants here.

The team 1) identifies and executes strategic “one of a kind deals” and 2) tests and nurtures scalable programs (read replicable “partnership model” we offer to a certain type of partners) that can be replicated across several markets.

To support the latter, we are looking for a Program Manager to own select Business Development programs for the region. As the Program Manager in EMEA, you will be responsible for identifying, experimenting with and scaling the right Business Development programs to support our regional development goals. This can mean extending/ localizing Shopify global initiatives into the local markets (eg. Investor Collective, our partnership program for VCs and PEs) or coming up with a regional-led program that we would develop as in the region.

You will report into the regional Business Development Lead and work cross-functionally with all the teams contributing to EMEA markets development. Among the Business Development team, you will be teaming up with the Business Development lead of each market, to make sure the programs you own are supporting each market’s strategy.

Our team is made up of people who go above and beyond every single day. We’re growing quickly, so there are plenty of opportunities to learn and advance. You’ll have the creative freedom to make a real difference in the world of commerce and the support to be your authentic self. All of that for the goal to promote entrepreneurship and help merchants thrive no matter where they are in their journey to independence.

  • Your job is to extend Shopify’s reach and impact. You understand how to partner with third party companies to craft win-win partnership models.

  • You think strategically and big picture, to identify which business development deal can be systemized in a “model” or program and how it supports our business goals in region/key markets

  • For a new program, you draft a business case to support your assumptions and work on a high standard of execution to pilot and iterate on the program. For global programs to localize to the region, you own the regional strategy and understand how to amplify its impact with a regional-relevant version.

  • You are a team player and collaborate cross functionally, with EMEA and global teams to leverage best practices and expertise where they are.

Qualifications

  • You have a proven track record  in the e-commerce / internet industry, and have a strong understanding of e-commerce ecosystems across EMEA.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You’re comfortable drafting documents to convey your arguments asynchronously, and lead discussions with senior stakeholders internally and externally.

  • You understand how to get things done with large companies, navigating complex organisations. You believe in leading by influence, not authority.

  • You have experience in management consulting, project management, business development in a top tier consultancy, software company, startup or a similar organization.

  • You have strong business and technical acumen and an ability to find shared wins.

  • You have demonstrated strong stakeholder management skills in key projects across internal functions and with external partners and possess the ability to work with a diverse set of people.

  • In addition to English, fluency in a second European language is a plus.

  • You have experience working for a global company and are excellent in executing across cultures.
