Douglas and Sharon Weaver started the Douglas J family of companies in 1967 with five employees and a passion for the Salon/Spa industry. They wanted to build a location that could pride itself on exceeding the guests’ expectations with every Douglas J experience. Since the initial opening, Douglas J has gone through 50 years of growth, expansion and evolution. We now have 9 locations including Aveda Institutes, Aveda Concept Salons and our Aveda Salon & Spa. We offer a complete menu of services in hair design and color, skin care, nail therapy, and massage therapy. Esthiology Educator – Inspire, Motivate, and Cultivate new talent coming into the spa industry!

A Douglas J educator creates a culture of continuous improvement that realizes learner potential & accomplishes learning comprehension through frequent & informal learner observation and coaching.

Educator mastery includes the acquisition of knowledge, demonstration, verification of learner cognition & obtaining the skill to leverage learner strengths, shift learner behaviors & heighten learner performance in preparation for a successful career in the salon/shop and spa industry.

About The Position:  

We’re looking for experienced skincare specialists and Licensed Esthiology Educators to inspire and educate our daytime and evening students.  

• We will provide training on Aveda Products & Services
• Our student curriculum is taught through Pivot Point’s LAB Education on iPads
• Educators have the opportunity to teach in the classroom and/or oversee our spa clinic

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Ensure safety and sanitary practices are being upheld at all times by learners and team members, in all learning environments
• Daily accountability for student clock-hours and hands-on activities
• Prepare for teaching, including presentations, demonstrations and understanding of curriculum content
• Follow Douglas J facilitation standards
• Perform and lead learner assessments while maintaining academic records in theory, practical and clinical experiences
• Lead Academic Advising, when necessary
• Maintain guest satisfaction; handle and resolve guest complaints and ensure guest servicing is consistent with educational standards
• Provide and promote a positive learning environment for all learners and team members
• Maintain a professional social media presence to support learner activities and location marketing
• Meet or exceed continuing education classes required for state licensure and NACCAS
• Attend scheduled team and Institute meetings as requested
• Uphold Douglas J and Aveda Mission and Values through actions and behaviors
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for:

• At least 2 years of experience working in skincare
• Experience teaching at an esthiology school is a plus
• Experience working with Aveda products/services/curriculum a plus
• Leadership and role model capabilities and ability to hold others accountable
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, professional spa environment
