Job Description

The Design Engineer will design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for customer products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and document product requirements.
  • Establish design targets based upon requirements.
  • Create and modify product designs to meet product targets.
  • Perform hand calculations to verify product will meet targets.
  • Work with CAE team to analyze product to verify conformance to targets.
  • Problem solve and develop solutions to any issues identified by calculations or analysis.
  • Complete tolerance stack-ups manually or via specialized software to determine ability for assemblies to meet targets.
  • Creates new 2D drawings for all components and assemblies required by customer.
  • Maintain an engineering open issues list.
  • Daily follow up with all team members on project status.
  • Meets regularly with customer to review progress, issues, and deliverables.
  • Meets regularly with engineering management and account management to review status.
  • Prepares and presents status reports.
  • Inputs all required documentation into customer SharePoint and tracks time using ACE Projects.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other units, such as prototype fabrication, testing, quality control, or procurement to ensure efficient product implementation.
  • Offers technical guidance to other engineers or engineering support staff.
  • Identifies inefficiencies in product design, fabrication, and implementation process and suggests improvements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical field.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of automotive product development experience, preferably with seating structures, mechanisms, and interiors.
  • Strong experience using CATIA V5.  NX or SolidWorks experience is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of stamping, fine blanking, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and creatively solve complex problems.
  • Ability to execute logical reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and SharePoint.
