Job Description

  • The Head of Risk and Compliance provides direction and oversight of Experian’s Risk and Compliance Management programmes in Africa by managing the Compliance and Risk Management (2nd Line of Defense) teams.
  • The incumbent is expected to provide proactive advice, direction and guidance from a risk and compliance management perspective to senior stakeholders to assist in setting of the strategic goals and objectives for the company.
  • Other duties of the role include managing, developing the compliance and risk management teams and ensuring they are supporting the business in conducting all business activities in accordance with Experian’s core values and regulatory requirements which impact Experian’s businesses
  • The role holder will be accountable for ensuring the established Compliance and Risk Management frameworks and methodologies to meet market, regional and global best practice requirements whilst ensuring that they are implemented and functioning effectively.
  • This individual will collaborate with the regional Head of Compliance and Head of Risk Management across the EMEA region to strategise, plan and document goals and objectives for execution each year.
  • He/She will be accountable for continuously identifying, assessing and reporting areas of Compliance and general risks as defined by the Risk Categories in accordance with agreed Risk Appetite statements.
  • The role holder will be required to communicate the status of the compliance programme to the EMEA Head of Compliance and the status of the Risk Management programme to the Head of Compliance & Risk Management-EMEA.
  • He/She will be required to maintain and distribute the Code of Conduct, setting forth the principles-based policies which are the basis of the Compliance Programme, developing and implementing education programmes addressing Compliance and collaborating with leadership to effectively incorporate the Compliance programme controls within business systems and operations.
  • This individual will oversee the Africa Risk Management Committee ensuring the risk categories are assessed and the status is reported.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in managing compliance and/or risk management programmes
  • Demonstrable experience with NCA and POPIA compliance.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in dealing with incident management issues
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in leading Compliance and/or Risk teams
  • Knowledgeable of regulatory requirements impacting Experian Africa’s businesses and industries
  • Knowledgeable of Risk Management programme requirements and Risk Management strategies
  • Experience working in a matrix organisation is desirable.

Additional Information

  • Responsible for ensuring the established Compliance framework and methodology is in place and functioning effectively
  • Identify the appropriate talent and resources to provide an ongoing effective Compliance Programme 
  • Direct a team of Compliance professionals in the execution and maintenance of the Compliance Management Programme
  • Identify compliance-related drivers for Experian’s stakeholder value model and implement metrics for measuring performance
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with all levels of management and other governance areas 
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders to determine risks and opportunities and considering how best to balance commercial interests with a compliant business environment
  • Develop and coordinate appropriate compliance training and education programmes for Africa employees, collaborating with other Experian regional Compliance and Risk Management teams to align the training, as appropriate
  • Demonstrate understanding of the company’s commitment to comply with all laws, regulations, company policies, risk appetite statements and ethical requirements as defined and agreed.
  • Ensure maintenance of established compliance and risk management programmes
  • Monitor/Test internal controls within the businesses to assess if they are capable of preventing and detecting significant instances or patterns of illegal, unethical, or improper conduct by employees, agents, contractors, or others working with the organisation
  • Oversee internal and external compliance review procedures for the purpose of monitoring and detecting any misconduct or noncompliance; if any misconduct or noncompliance is detected, identify a solution and follow up to ensure that the recommendations have been implemented
  • Provide a means for resolving issues in a systematic, timely and continuous manner.
  • Provide incident management leadership, including around-the-clock updates to executive management, as appropriate
  • Ensure risk issues are logged in the Global Risk Centre and are escalated for awareness, as appropriate
  • Maintain creative and engaging compliance training programmes to communicate with all employees, agents, contractors and groups working with the organisation 
  • Provide ongoing education to the heads of each Experian business to ensure they are aware of risks within their businesses and work with them to mitigate and manage those risks
  • Ensure appropriate and successful completion of required training for all team members 
  • Ensure appropriate communication for all risk issues between local and corporate levels
  • Work with Corporate Communications to prepare external facing communications related to compliance matters
  • Ensure any regulatory examinations are managed effectively, and appropriate training and communications are provided.
