Back-End Developer

We are expanding our team to aggressively broaden Snow Commander’s leading-edge cloud computing technology and are looking for an exceptional Software Engineer to join our development team. This role can be based from the Ottawa office, or can based remotely in Eastern Ontario with occasional travel to the office for collaboration purposes.

You will be developing in Java, so if you have Java skills then great! Otherwise, we are seeking strong developers in related technologies such as .Net, C++, or Python who are interested in getting into Java and have great transferable skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Focus on improving the performance and reliability of our solutions
• Optimize the ingestion and analysis of data for large hybrid cloud environments
  • Millions of dollars of monthly public cloud spend
  • Tens of thousands of workloads in the hybrid cloud
• Ensure the system performance remains stable during peak usage scenarios
• Contribute to system architecture design
• Find simple ways to solve complex problems that provide high customer value

 Experience:

As the successful candidate, you will be a backend Developer with strong development capabilities and will revel in achieving orders of magnitude of performance improvements.  You will have strong back end focus but are able and willing to make changes at the UI layer when needed.

• Experience building modern Java-based web applications preferred
• Demonstrable history of tackling tough performance issues
• Experience with Spring and Hibernate
• Experience refactoring existing code into simple, well-structured solutions
• Experience with some of the following would definitely be an asset:
  • JVM and JDBC optimization
  • Performance testing and large data set simulation
  • Data modelling and DB query optimization
  • Front end technologies: Angular, JSF
  • Public cloud (AWS, Azure, Google)
