Job Description

More than one million business owners around the world are powered by Shopify and that number is only going to climb. Themes are responsible for the look, feel and functionality of a storefront, and a well-crafted theme is critical to empowering our merchants. With more than one million business owners around the world powered by Shopify, the demand for beautifully designed, performant, and accessible themes has never been higher. The role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with our theme partner community, and you’ll be responsible for helping them succeed and guiding them in building standout themes for our merchants.

Our team is made up of passionate individuals who go above and beyond every day. The successful candidate is someone who excels in all forms of communication, can generate value for our merchants by building both broad and focused partner relationships, and helps define our overall theme partner strategy.

  • Review high potential developer candidates to bring into the Theme Store ecosystem.

  • Work closely with developers and theme partners to incentivize and motivate them to build high quality themes that will add significant value to our merchant base and drive new merchants to Shopify.

  • Work with marketing and UX teams to create targeted email campaigns for potential developers and partners to incentivize them to build and submit themes to the Shopify Theme Store.

  • Meet with high potential developers and partners to help them better understand the theme building process, and to build relationships with them. 

  • Monitor and track developers and partners as they move through the theme building funnel, create detailed notes and records of candidates that our team works with and constantly improve and iterate on team processes.

  • Work with data, marketing and content teams to analyze trends and solve problems as needed.

  • Set up 1:1 coaching sessions with partners that are struggling to pass the theme review process to explore why they are failing and where they are being blocked, and unblock them. 

  • Be the face of themes and the Theme Store, be the front line communicators between Shopify and our Partners.

  • Confidently be able to gather context from various cross-functional teams and stakeholders and contribute to strategic team requirements and goals.

  • Work with product teams on various theme related updates to ensure our Partners have the resources they need to update their themes in a timely manner.

  • Work closely with marketing teams to create content for (and participate in) webinars on theme related subjects, write partner facing blog articles,and speak at partner events to drive partner engagement in the community.

  • Leverage data to analyze the business verticals and market gaps that are underrepresented in our theme catalogue.

  • Leverage your knowledge of the platform and the themes industry to identify and execute both quarterly and long term KPIs for the team.

Qualifications

  • You have expert level communication skills, both written and verbal and can effectively bring cross-team stakeholders to the same vision and objectives.

  • You are able to effectively leverage the knowledge and resources around you in order to analyse the larger picture, tackle complex problems, deal with difficult situations, and make decisions with minimal guidance.

  • You are empathetic and able to own difficult conversations and situations when needed.

  • You are able to multitask effectively and work within set deadlines.

  • You have excellent team collaboration and client relationship skills.

  • You have a working knowledge of Shopify themes’ visual design, code (HTML and CSS), and UX best practices and are comfortable discussing these subjects with product teams and with partners.

  • You are at ease doing presentations, running webinars and workshops.

  • You are confident with, and excited about building relationships both internally in the company and externally with our partner community.

  • You have experience working in an e-commerce environment, and at least 3+ years managing partners. 

It would be great if you had 

  • Experience with data analysis and management using SQL and Mode.

  • Working knowledge around Shopify’s suite of theme building tools such as Shopify CLI, Lighthouse CI and Shopify’s Github integration.
