Senior Software Engineer, Experimentation Platform

Etsy is seeking a skilled Senior Full-Stack Engineer with a strong interest in working with data at scale to join our experimentation platform initiative.

About Experimentation Platform

The Experimentation Platform team is tasked with improving Etsy’s A/B testing tools and experiment ecosystem, which are critical for the company’s product development success. Teams across Etsy use the experimentation platform to learn, make product decisions, and measure the impact of new features. We work in Scala, SQL, Java, PHP, Python and Javascript frameworks such as React; with big data frameworks like Hadoop, Kafka, Scalding, Spark, Airflow, Vertica, Looker and Google Cloud products such as Dataproc, Dataflow and BigQuery. Experience with any of these is helpful but not required.

The team is part of the Data Technology organization, which builds systems and infrastructure for collecting, storing, and analyzing huge sets of data in batch and streaming pipelines. We value curiosity, enthusiasm, responsibility and generosity of spirit.

• Help to improve Etsy’s experimentation platform, including experiment bucketing, event logging, our offline data processes, and web UI for data visualization
• Participate in developing innovative solutions to complex business problems such as experiment setup, data collection and visualization
• Lead mission critical long term initiatives across multiple cross-functional teams
• Be a key decision-maker on technical or business issues, which significantly impacts roles and responsibilities of others
• Regularly explore uncharted territory. Be aware of business trends and emerging technologies even outside the current business and determine how they can be leveraged to the advantage of Etsy

• You want to work on large-scale data problems and full-stack development
• You have experience in building High Availability, multi-tenanted big data applications in a Cloud environment
• You possess advanced programming skills to build distributed storage and compute systems, backend services, microservices, and web technologies.
• You have experience mentoring and supporting peers and engineering teams, encouraging the best engineering practices
