Network Engineer

Targets & Objectives

·         Objectives will be set annually and reviewed quarterly

·         Implement monitoring and reporting governance to help achieve and maintain service standards   

Relationships

·         Reporting to Head of Network Operations

·         Collaborating with fellow members of the Network Operations team

·         Collaborating with regional IT Service and Change Management teams

·         Collaborating with enterprise cloud and Unified Communications infrastructure engineering teams

General Responsibilities

·         Resolve network related issues and problems in a timely manner

·         Provide expertise in network operation and troubleshooting

·         Design and implement networks including physical connections, layer 2 topologies and layer 3 topologies

·         Analyse network performance metrics

·         Ensure network designs compliance to Service Level Agreements and KPIs

·         Promote and adhere to network design standards

·         Upgrade and replace network hardware where appropriate

·         Participate in regular network health check and process review

·         Perform project work such as upgrades new installations and integrations/divestitures

·         Create and maintain project and site documentation

·         Work with client/business manager to understand project plans and scope for assigned role on engagement

·         Support security and network management systems

·         Coordinate with multiple vendors to procure network-related hardware, software, and services

·         Maintain network security through proper configuration of Internet Routers, VPN devices and Firewalling solutions.

·         Upgrade and replace network hardware

·         Upgrade of manufacturer operating systems releases

·         Capacity planning & capacity management

Essential Technical Knowledge

·         Cisco network devices and software (IOS and IOS-XE Routers and Switches)

·         Layer 3 routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VRF-Lite)

·         Layer 2 switching protocols (802.1Q, Etherchannel)

·         Design and implementation of Quality of Service policies

·         Design and implementation of SDWAN optimisation and acceleration solutions

·         Design and implementation of DMVPN v2 and/or v3

·         Design and implementation of ISR zone based firewalling

·         Design and implementation of Wireless Systems (e.g. Cisco Meraki)

·         Cisco Identity Services ISE (v2.6+)

·         Knowledge of DHCP network and server configuration (e.g. IP helper, Microsoft 2012 R2 Cluster DHCP service)

·         Network Management Tools (e.g., CA Spectrum, CA eHealth, CA NFA)

Toolset Knowledge

·         Cisco ASDM

·         Cisco ISE

·         Microsoft NPS – Azure MFA Integration

·         CA DX NetOps Spectrum

·         CA Performance Management

·         CA NetFlow

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

·         CCNP – Routing & Switching

·         5+ years of experience in a network engineering position

·         Technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills

·         Good working knowledge of the ITIL change management framework

·         Significant experience working with vendors, professional services, and providers

·         High levels of technical documentation & reporting

·         5+ years’ experience of investigating and managing network related incidents

·         Understanding of network patterns and approaches

Highly Desirable:

·         Zscaler ZIA or ZPA implementation and management

· CCNP required
