Shopify is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer (Learning Design) to work on a dynamic team at the forefront of digital learning. 

In this role, the Senior Instructional Designer provides expertise, creativity, and leadership to drive the design and development of credentialed and non-credit learning experiences. 

The individual in this position will work collaboratively with colleagues, subject matter experts, product documentation teams, and program managers to lead curriculum development and learning design for digital learning offerings. 

The desired candidate for this role will help Shopify develop and deliver world-class courses and training in commerce, technical enablement, platform and tools,  developer courses, and other curricula to service partners, developers, merchants, and learners who comprise Shopify’s global and diverse audiences.

This person will manage the design and scalable delivery of digital teaching and learning models to increase learner success demonstrated by measurable learning and performance outcomes. 

Essential Duties

• Collaborate with program managers, product documentation teams, subject matter experts, content developers, and digital learning team members on the design, development, and delivery of digital learning experiences. 

• Work closely with colleagues and unit leadership to develop, implement, evaluate and refine learning design standards, procedures, and protocols.

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of digital course content, materials, interactive and multimedia technology-driven components, and other learning materials consistent with established design and development processes to ensure flexibility and reusability. 

• Serve as an instructional design lead on new or revised program design processes.

• Development of original content, learning activities, projects, rubrics, and exams.

• Implementation and reporting of measurable learning outcomes. 

• Design and conduct collaborative work sessions with team members to develop/redesign curriculum and digital learning initiatives. 

• Collect and analyze data related to online initiatives for continual improvement. 

• Remain abreast of technology directions, initiatives, and trends to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations. 

• Manage special projects and facilitates workshops and working groups. 

•  Serve on various Shopify teams and/or committees. 

• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. 

• Other duties as assigned. 

• Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related area.

• Demonstrated experience applying online instructional design principles, practices, and techniques to digital learning design and development. 

• Demonstrated experience managing curriculum development projects and initiatives in formal education and or corporate learning. 

• Demonstrated experience designing and developing learning and instruction for digital delivery of for-credit and not-for-credit offerings. 

• Seven years instructional design or technology.

• Excellent editing, writing, and communication skills.

• Experience using multiple learning management systems (Canvas, Cornerstone, Blackboard, Moodle, edX, Coursera, etc.); evaluation and online delivery.

• Development of original content, learning activities, projects, rubrics, and exams.

• Demonstrated experience working in LMS environments to develop learning materials. 

• Project management experience. 

• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing competing demands.

• Some supervisory experience. 

Desired Qualifications 

• Master’s degree in a subject related to education, online learning, or instructional design. 

• Demonstrated experience conducting workshops and other professional development.
