Job Description

Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Financial Controller is responsible for producing accurate and timely consolidated financial statements and other financial information. He/She is also accountable for the accounting operations of the company, including the maintenance of a system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, ensure the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and compliance with IFRS.  

Responsibilities

Reporting and process improvement 70%

  • Manage all corporate accounting operations including GL and cost accounting, inventory accounting and revenue recognition
  • Participate in the development of management systems and practices to ensure rigorous tracking to increase internal efficiencies
  • Prepare the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Coordinate the company audit process and collaborations with auditors
  • Research technical accounting issues 
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting

 

People leadership & development - 30% 

  • Work with Managers to ensure hiring targets are being met
  • Hold weekly one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles
  • Ensure team mobilization by regularly gauging team engagement and implementing appropriate means to create a transparent, collaborative and productive work environment
  • Identify current gaps within the team/department structure and work with Senior Leadership on resourcing plans
  • Establish the resource plan for the direct team
  • Establish the short term objectives for the department and ensure team's are engaged towards achieving the department's missions
  • Enforce the Department's mission and vision throughout the teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • Professional designation (CA, CGA, CMA / CPA) 
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in progressive accounting roles
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a Financial Controller with systems implementation
  • Experience with SAP, strong asset
  • Experience in financial statements preparation
  • Experience in digital media or international retail industry, an asset
  • Experience consolidating numerous legal entities in multiple jurisdictions, currencies and reporting in different Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Good English and French written and verbal communication skills
