If you’re passionate about all things tax, this role could be a great fit!  We have an exciting new job opportunity for a self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented Senior Tax Accountant to join our Accounting team.  Responsibilities include all calculations and filings for sales/use, property and franchise taxes. 

Principal Accountabilities:

• Prepare and file monthly and quarterly sales and use taxes for 40+ locations, including facilitating online payments with each jurisdiction’s web portal.
• Analyze vendor invoices to self-assess and accrue for use tax as required
• Manage sales/use and property tax audits, including handling correspondence with jurisdictions
• Prepare personal property statements and facilitate the payment of returns
• Process quarterly payments and extensions for franchise tax and annual reports
• Research federal and SALT tax laws to ensure compliance
• Proactively keep abreast of tax changes such as sales tax rates or filing requirements
• Monitor new store and liaise with Legal to obtain/update tax licenses
• Liaise with the CPA firm on the annual tax compliance engagement, including preparing state apportionment schedules
• Communicate with investors as required to facilitate the 1065 and K-1 preparation
• Organize and maintain sales tax exemption and resale certificates
• Create and maintain a tax calendar for the department to ensure filing, extension and estimate deadlines are met
• Assist with special tax projects as needed

Financial Accountabilities:

• Record tax-related expenses and accruals in the proper period according to GAAP and supporting the financial reporting function for management, auditors, banks and external users.
• Prepare annual tax budgets, along with updates to the tax forecast, for Finance team
• Perform reconciliations of tax-related balance sheet accounts.
• Pursue best practices and drive for continuous improvement, automation of processes and procedures

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required; CPA/MST is a plus
• 3-5 years in a recent multi-state indirect Tax Accounting role is required
• Intermediate Excel experience
• Proficiency with accounting ERP systems is required; Microsoft Dynamics GP is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to support a culture of continuous improvement
• Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Solid understanding of deliverables, and the ability to assume accountability for them
• Strong sense of urgency and a “can-do” attitude
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate dynamic information clearly and succinctly
• Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service and build internal relationships
• Strong sense of integrity and the ability to protect confidential information
• Experience with tax compliance software is a plus
• Hospitality experience is a plus
