Job Description

Overview.       

The Project Manager will manage all technical and commercial aspects of the mechanical, electrical and public health installation on the projects with a focus on their specific engineering discipline. This will include ensuring that operations on site are carried out in a safe manner and that the company’s business processes are followed in carrying out the project. The Project Manager will maintain good client and project team relationships on the projects.

In addition to the Project Management duties; in order to facilitate the transfer of the engineers to their next project, the Project Manager will take on residual engineering duties as per his technical discipline as outlined within the Engineers Project Job Description.

The Role - Key tasks

1.     Ensures that the project is delivered to the conditions, requirements, deliverables, and liabilities of the works as defined and awarded by the Client.

2.     Ensures that the project is designed, procured, installed & commissioned in line with the Project Quality Plan and

3.     Ensures that project risks are considered, reported, controlled and mitigated and ensures that risks, including those affecting health & safety are eliminated through careful design, where practicable.

4.   Assesses and organises the resources as necessary to execute the project in a safe, efficient and profitable manner, both in the regional offices and the site location.

5.   Communicates to subordinates all necessary information including contract conditions, specifications, drawings, work instructions and Mitie Technical Services policies and procedures for the execution of the project.

6.   Ensures the safe and efficient execution of installation, testing and commissioning works in accordance with the agreed installation methodology to the client's quality and programme requirements and in accordance with company policies and procedures. 

7.   Maximises utilisation of materials, plant and labour is to be achieved which will include innovative methods and off site manufacture. Ensures that sustainability is at the heart of the construction process.

8.   Leads by example, supervise and motivate subordinates, including training and development, in the execution of the project and maintaining good industrial relations throughout.

9.   Establishes a productive and harmonious working relationship with the Client, achieve a clear definition of all of Mitie Technical Service’s responsibilities concerning design and co-ordination activities and develop contract opportunities.

10.   Ensures the efficient production of the engineering through to installation information in accordance with project conditions and requirements, taking account of the CDM and other statutory regulations and the client's safety, quality and programme requirements. Fitness for purpose and ease of maintenance is to be considered.

11.   Ensures the efficient operation of Mitie Technical Service’s procurement, material control and costing policies and procedures, aid and assist in producing accurate and current procurement schedules and cost reports for senior management.

12. Ensures the accurate and efficient provision of progress and productivity reports weekly and monthly to senior management.  Access and handover records are to be maintained.

13.  Ensures the accurate and efficient provision of Contract Valuation Performance reports monthly to senior management in accordance with company procedures.

The above outlines the main duties and responsibilities of the position, however, this cannot be comprehensive and other duties, as directed by the company and within the job holder's capabilities may be required.  The duties will evolve and be modified by changes within the company.

Qualifications

Performance Measures

HND in building services or similar trade qualification and 5 years minimum experience required.

  • Compliance with Mitie Technical Services policies.
  • Project safety input, including notice board update.
  • Effectiveness in enforcement of H&S initiatives, such as nil hot works, no live working & eliminating working at height.
  • Project quality & specification compliance.
  • Project financial performance and productivity.
  • Project timescale & quality of progress reporting.
  • Control of sub-contractors.
  • Control of plant & tools.
  • Maximisation of innovation, off site manufacture & sustainable initiatives.
  • Effectiveness of communication and teamwork.
  • Quality of record keeping.
  • Customer feedback.
  • Project Team feedback
  • Timely satisfactory conclusion of actions recorded on audit reports

Additional Information

  • Follow Group and company policies and procedures at all times
  • Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment
  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received
  • Report any issues or training needs to your line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system
