Experian are pleased to announce an exciting career opportunity for a Regulatory Lawyer to be the legal advisor to management and business on legal and regulatory matters (mainly including credit reference agency, open banking and FCA requirements). Supporting the B2B business as lead relationship lawyer working independently for the relevant designated Experian business unit (Business Information, Digital Consumer Information and Targeting).

Providing core legal advice
To give clear legal advice & insight on open banking and FCA regulatory matters as needed by Experian to launch or update products at pace and within risk appetite through providing challenge and support to the first line of defence, compliance team and, as appropriate, other teams within Experian. To monitor the regulatory directions and actions of the FCA and relevant legislatures. To collaborate with legal and compliance colleagues to find ways to empower the first line of defence to get compliant products into client's hands at pace.
Associated legal advice
To be able to spot and provide preliminary advice on associated legal issues (including, for example, privacy, Brexit, competition law issues, intellectual property, discrimination & fairness, risks of legal proceedings). Where necessary for strategic or specialist knowledge reasons, to obtain external legal advice (through a competitive fee challenge approach where appropriate)
Legal operations
Meet legal team's minimum standards including as to: maintaining and keeping updated files in the legal team's case management system; time recording; contributing to and updating the legal team's knowledge sharing tools; play an active part in legal team meetings and in the Experian legal community; instructing of external lawyers. To look for ways to streamline the delivery of legal advice, knowledge and insight through the use of IT, automation or other options.
Business relationship management
May act as the primary relationship contact between the legal team and a designated business unit: to seek to understand the strategic direction, needs and priorities of that business unit and join forces with them; to help the business unit understand its legal and regulatory obligations and help those feed into its strategic direction; to share and capture knowledge about the business unit for the benefit of the whole legal team; to be accountable for overseeing and tracking the work across the legal team for that business unit – escalating and influencing as necessary. Collaborate with colleagues across the team, business unit and wider Experian to help ensure that desired outcomes get delivered
Could this be the role for you? Here's what we're ideally looking for:
Likely to have at least six years post-qualification experience as in-house lawyer advising on regulated products (either direct to consumer or business) within a regulated business. Knowledge and understanding of the workings of Credit Reference Agencies alongside the products and services offered in the B2B space would be highly desirable. Exposure to and understanding of GDPR and UK Data Protection Act 2018 governance and it's practical implications would be advantageous alongside a good working knowledge of the regulatory framework including FCA permissions, FCA Handbook and Rules.
A background which has provided you with exposure to any of the following;
Qualification as a solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive (in England & Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland), qualified as a lawyer in a member state of the European Union or qualified as a lawyer in another common-law jurisdiction.
