The Tutor interacts day-to-day with middle or high school students engaged in the Prince George’s County Public Schools/Close Up Foundation virtual, afterschool Civic Voices Academy (HS) and Civic Leaders Program (MS). The Tutor supports a specific small group of students’ learning and progress through the program.
Over the course of the Civic Voices Academy program, students will investigate and discuss America’s democratic values and aspirations, deliberate about pressing community and national issues, and consider how to effect change. The curriculum is intended to build citizenship and media literacy skills, develop students’ civic and democratic dispositions, and support students’ growth in critical thinking and problem solving. Throughout the program tutors will work with small groups of students to increase writing, public speaking, and other citizenship skills.
