Job Description

Shopify has redefined commerce. We’ve raised the standard for how businesses of all sizes operate, market, and sell their products and services. With over 1,000,000 merchants in more than 175 different countries, we continue to grow while looking for innovative ways to impact the market.

The Experimentation & Analysis team sits at the center of Growth, Data Science & Engineering, and Finance. As part of the Growth Strategy & Operations team, we work across the Growth Org with our key partners to drive better decision making, leading to more efficient growth.

As a Senior Experimentation and Analysis Lead, you’ll use your combination of strategic thinking and analytical skills to understand growth performance and extract insights, conduct rigorous business planning, and build models to evaluate growth initiatives. Your success will hinge on blending a high proficiency in accessing and manipulating data with strong ability to turn data into strategic insights and recommendations.

We care about growing creative, collaborative people, and strong, capable teams. Your peers in Shopify's Growth Org have diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and experiences but share an established track record of driving significant business growth.

You'll be doing things like:

  • Deep dive on growth performance to extract valuable insights and communicate those findings to various audiences—from individual contributors to senior leaders.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly business reviews for the Growth Org.

  • Partner with Operations, Research, and Growth teams to conduct strategic business planning.

  • Own ongoing model development to evaluate growth initiatives and inform important strategic choices.

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team on solving complex problems using data.

Qualifications

  • Experience synthesizing data and information to go beyond what happened and communicate the why behind the numbers.

  • Deep expertise with basic statistics and mathematical modelling concepts such as sample estimation, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and median absolute deviation.

  • Experience with SQL. You may not be able to write complex queries from scratch, but you have a strong understanding of databases and how to query them.

  • Strong communication skills including data visualizing and the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable insights.

  • Experience working with stakeholders across multiple disciplines, including senior management.

  • Strong people leadership skills including an excellent ability to mentor and coach—our team is growing quickly.

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous work environment and to navigate through change.

  • Excellent Excel or Google Sheet modelling capabilities

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working in SaaS or other technology companies. It’s useful to understand our industry and business model.

  • Strong project management and prioritization skills with an approach that defaults to action. You can drive good decisions quickly and help other teams do the same.

  • Experience working in growth or marketing. You may not be an expert in every channel or discipline, but you understand the big picture and how each piece of marketing fits together.

  • Experience with data analysis tools like Tableau, Mode, Google Analytics, and Amplitude.

  • Experience with experimental design and analysis, and running controlled experiments.
