Job Description

Discovery Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a Financial Counselor to join our team in Los Alamitos, CA. Reporting to the National Director of Admissions. The Financial Counselor is responsible for observing patient days and pending denial logs. Utilizing said logs to provide families an opportunity to continue clinically recommended lengths of stay. The Financial Counselor will be a bridge between our admissions and business office team. They will also work in concert with our UR team members. This role would also update internal metrics within Salesforce and Kipu. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Pull paperwork from the admissions department for all previous day admissions.
  • Run Inpatient/PHP and IOP benefit information and obtained roster of potential rollovers.
  • Re-verify insurance benefits as needed to ensure benefits have not changed.
  • Discuss private pay options with families looking for additional resources not covered by their insurance plans.
  • Create private pay contracts and work with families via care credit and payments plans. 
  • Collect copies of patient ID and insurance cards as needed by admissions or business offices. 
  • Facilitates the collection of patient payments, co-pays/deductibles by cash, check, or credit card via online payment portal.  Log credit card payments in payment log. Submit weekly log to designated business offices staff.
  • Enter unpaid estimated self-pay patient responsibility into the system.
  • Create and maintain business office financial folder for all Inpatient/PHP/IOP admissions.
  • Monitor and update Admissions, Utilization Review and Business Office staff regarding any unpaid days on the horizon. .
  • Create and maintain business office checklist to ensure all paperwork is included in patient financial folder.
  • Support both the admissions leads and business office staff in day to day financial operations.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • 6 months minimum of collections/admissions coordinator experience.
  • Experience in medical or hospital setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with a high degree of flexibility.
  • A strong record of successful team building and project execution. 
  • Excellent communication skills a must.
