Job Description

We are hiring a new position to our global Commercial team. As the Head of Licensing you will be a proven commercial leader with a track record in driving revenue growth by successfully utilizing a broad range of channel partners in licensing to reach end customers. Reporting to the Commercial Director & VP (Channel Lead eBooks & Licensing), you will be an important team member in helping us deliver revenue and profit objectives and setting the strategic agenda in the areas of eBooks licensing, Journals Permissions, and corporate reprints. In addition to managing global eBooks licensing through 3rd parties, you'll have line management responsibilities of the Journals Licensing & Permissions team, as well as the Corporate Reprints team within the Dove (Open Access) publishing arm.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Driving revenue: achieving and exceeding annual commercial and licensing targets, reporting on sales pipeline, progress and business environment.
  • Licensing leadership: leading diverse commercial teams, developing and communicating a clear strategy for licensing opportunities; facilitating staff development; responding to emerging challenges and opportunities.
  • Customer & channel management: Developing and expanding T&Fs relationships and commercial offers globally with licensing partners, clients and customers for eBooks, Journals and Reprints, operating within the policy framework for licensing as set by the Channel Lead for eBooks and Licensing. Maximizing the market share of T&F products and services over the short to long term, and to drive growth.
  • New product and service licensing: identifying and exploring opportunities for further licensing revenue lines, such as TDM and licensing data services.
  • Working in collaboration with all other stakeholder teams including Editorial, Product and Technology to develop and improving the operations that drive revenue for each specific product or service format (eBooks licensing; Journals Permissions; Journals Reprints).

Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of copyright within publishing.
  • Familiarity with key business models and partners in licensing, for a variety of content types.
  • Experience of leading people and motivating teams.
  • Positive and flexible demeanor, and an ability to build and maintain positive and effective relationships with the team members and other internal colleagues.
  • Willingness to travel to conferences and book fairs as required by the company.
  • Target driven approach and the skills to lead commercial plans and delivery.
