As one of the top performing chapters in the country, JDRF’s Mid-Atlantic (MAC) Chapter plays a vital role in the organization’s success.  The MAC chapter includes a staff team of eleven (11), 3 Chapter Community Boards of Directors, as well as leadership volunteers who are actively engaged and passionate supporters of JDRF across the Chapter territory, which includes Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.

Summary

The Associate Executive Director (AED) serves in a leadership role with senior level volunteers and constituents as well as staff across fundraising, community development and operations.  Specifically, the AED is responsible for driving strategic direction, management, and financial growth for the Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Peer-to-Peer (P2P) and Signature Events fundraising efforts, including the JDRF One Walks, The Ride to Cure Diabetes program, the Galas, and the Real Estate Games. Remote work is possible depending on location but the position must be based within the chapter footprint (Virginia, Maryland, Washington, DC).

The AED leads and oversees the Events teams: works with the program Directors on how to strategically drive corporate, family, and individual engagement across our chapter footprint.  Additionally, the AED is responsible for focusing on how to move volunteers through the donor lifecycle and pipeline to maximize engagement and impact for JDRF. 

Working in partnership with the Executive Director, the AED is responsible for, and contributes to, the overall chapter fundraising budget of $6.2 million for fiscal year ’22.  The AED works with the entire chapter team to ensure that fundraising and non-fundraising priorities of JDRF are met through increased corporate, family and volunteer involvement.

Working within JDRF's volunteer - staff partnership environment, the AED supports and embodies the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of JDRF. 

Responsibilities:

• Serves as a key leader for the Mid-Atlantic chapter.
• In partnership with the chapter Executive Director, manages the functioning of the chapter's daily operations including overseeing the day-to-day management of assigned chapter activities, staff, and volunteers in the implementation of strategic and operational plans to drive fundraising and non-fundraising priorities.
• Supervises staff as assigned, including contributing to staffing decisions and staff evaluations.  Provides ongoing growth and development by motivating, developing, and directing staff as they work to achieve JDRF and chapter priorities.
• Leads planning and management of Core Revenue Campaigns.  
• Collaborates with an outstanding team of local staff as well as national staff resources to ensure chapter core fundraising revenue targets are achieved.
• Manages a portfolio of constituents and supports efforts for high-level donor cultivation and engagement plans that result in giving and chapter engagement.
• Identifies and develops new business with both existing donors as well as new prospects and provides excellent donor relationship management to key chapter stakeholders.
• Avidly utilizes CRM platform (Salesforce) to track portfolio and moves management progress.
• In partnership with the Chapter ED and Development Directors, lead the recruitment and solicitation of Corporate and Family Chairs for Gala and One Walk.
• Ensures continuity of Chapter performance during staffing vacancies as assigned.
• Assists in the development and engagement of board members, as well as with the identification and cultivation of potential board members in coordination with the Executive Director and Nominating Committee.
• In partnership with the Chapter Executive Director, administers and coordinates the annual chapter planning and budgeting program for quality assurance and alignment with JDRF strategic initiatives.
• Communicates and sets expectations clearly and appropriately.
• Establishes and maintains departmental and organization-wide policies and procedures and supports regional and national directives.
• Represents the best interests, professionalism, and integrity of JDRF in all activities and relationships through a unified message of the JDRF mission and a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example.
• Maintains a clear understanding of JDRF’s mission and research priorities in order to communicate donor impact.
• Ensures the confidentiality and security of proprietary information.
• Establishes a network and represents the organization in professional societies/organizations.

• 8 to 10 years of progressively responsible and related fundraising experience with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity. 
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience; CFRE or Master’s degree a plus.
• Experienced with staff and volunteer management, including committee development, corporate development, and succession planning.
• Ability to effectively multi-task and establish priorities to work in a fast-paced environment.  
• Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.  
• Financial management experience (budget development and management and forecasting).   
• Team player that has the ability to interface with all levels of staff and volunteers; high capacity to assess the value, importance, and/or quality of activities and people.
• Ability to develop, maintain, and leverage relationships.  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong public speaking/presentation skills.  
• Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects, meet deadlines, problem-solve and multi-task.
• Ability for presentation delivery, conveying ideas and instructing effectively.  
• Superior active listening, observation, and analytical skills.  
• Ability to exercise sound judgment.  
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM systems (Salesforce preferred). 
• Ability to inspire, lead and motivate a team; lead by example as a player-coach.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills. Ability to build rapport with participants, donors, volunteers, and the public.
• Enjoys working on a team and is adaptable. Sense of humor a plus!
• Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.  
• Well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful.  
• Works well within a matrix structure where more than one individual is providing guidance, feedback, counsel, and support.
• Ability to travel within the chapter footprint. Occasional evening and weekend work required to support all chapter events.
