Senior Python Backend Engineer, Logistics Optimization

We are looking for a backend engineer to join our ranks in the Logistics Optimization team. The Logistics Optimization team is a group of people consisting of data scientists, a C++ algorithm developer, and an operations researcher. The team works on developing and deploying ML models for estimating different parts of the delivery process as well as designing and running experiments to evaluate their performance. The company's in-house route optimizer is also owned by the team. Together, we are responsible for generating the delivery time estimates shown to consumers, and for making the task assignments for couriers.

The team is currently taking the next step in building out the logistics platform of the future, and we need your help in doing so. If you are someone with a strong Python backend experience interested in working closely with data scientists on our logistics system, then we would like to hear from you!

You would have a big impact as the first dedicated backend engineer in the team. You would be a key player in building a new service from scratch for running city-wide logistics experiments, helping data scientists integrate their new ML-based estimates, as well as setting up data pipelines between our backend and data warehouse.

This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki or Berlin, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Read more about our remote set-up here. 

• Fluent programming skills in modern Python
• Experience in setting up backend microservices
• Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration
• Familiarity with database technologies, such as MongoDB or PostgreSQL
• Several years of experience building production-grade software
• Analytical and curious thinking, self starter with drive to get things done
• Comfortable working with real world data and its different nuisances 

Experience with the following technologies and languages is highly desired but not mandatory:

• Kafka
• Airflow
• Scala
