Finance at Shopify is a great place to hone your technical skills and get exposure to the Shopify product inside and out. In the last 3 years, the Finance team has grown from 30 to almost 150 people! In that time, the company has successfully completed multiple follow on equity offerings, its inaugural convertible note issuance, closed several acquisitions and opened entities around the world to support international growth.

Shopify is looking to hire new graduates for 6 month contract positions; these are remote positions and the successful candidates will work from home. The process is open to university and college graduates in Canada and the U.S. located in the Eastern Time Zone who have completed a business or commerce program in the last 2 years. Start dates for successful applicants will be in January 2022.
Being a new grad in finance at Shopify means you get to make an impact and get shit done. In your application, you will choose from 5 streams :
Tax
Support with the preparation tax returns
Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions
Assist with the preparation of transfer pricing computations
Assist with government tax audits, including indirect tax, income tax and SR&ED audits, and respond to external auditor’s queries
Research and analyze various tax issues
Treasury
Assist with administration for our operating bank accounts
Support the preparation of both cash and foreign exchange forecasts
Support with foreign exchange trading and initiation of wire transfers
Analyze merchants’ eligibility for Shopify Capital
Assist with the advancement of Shopify’s treasury management system (Kyriba)
Develop and support reporting for our $6B investments portfolio
A degree in information systems or data science is also acceptable for applicants to this role
Controllership
Support the month/ quarter/ annual close process
Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
Assist with the implementation and testing of financial reporting systems relating to new Shopify products and process improvements
Conduct research on complex technical accounting issues and draft preliminary position papers
We are seeking a candidate who is in pursuit of a CPA designation
Internal Audit
Collect and analyze financial and technology control information to reduce process risk
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive processes
Develop data visualization graphs/schematics to articulate data stories
Develop and assist with creating team resources, templates, and educational materials
Coordinate and collect information for external auditor requests
A degree in information systems or data science is also acceptable for applicants to this role
Investor Relations
Track and maintain financial and product performance disclosures and equity analyst estimates to surface insights and inform discussions with Wall Street and Bay Street
Conduct financial and peer analysis to inform Shopify’s narrative and communications to Wall Street and Bay Street
Stay informed on Shopify’s stock performance as well as general market trends
