Job Description

We are seeking an experienced compliance professional to oversee our global compliance program operations and advise our House of Brands on compliance risks. Our global enterprise team works across all of our marketplaces and offices worldwide so there will be opportunity to partner with and support each of Reverb, Elo7 and Depop as well as Etsy.com.

As the Director of Global Compliance Strategy you will lead a team that is responsible for Etsy’s global compliance program and is a trusted advisor to the business. Do you find joy in solving complex compliance issues with pragmatic solutions? If so, this could be the perfect match.

Our compliance program covers areas including anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, fraud, sanctions, privacy, information security, acceptable use, payments, employment, third party management, product safety, and antitrust. We are the second line of our decentralized Compliance program, advising and overseeing first line operational compliance functions such as Trust & Safety, Payments, Privacy, Strategic Sourcing, Information Security, Human Resources, and Finance.

This is a full-time position reporting to the VP, Chief Compliance Officer. We are considering remote candidates based in the US for this position. Etsy offers three different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team: Flex mode for candidates who are comfortable traveling to an office location 2+ times per week, Remote mode, and Office-based mode. About The Role
In this role you will:

  • Oversee the continuous improvement of our compliance program including the design and strategy of program operations

  • Lead the design, implementation, and integration of our compliance program at group subsidiaries

  • Advise first line risk owners, product/engineering teams, and the business on compliance risks and solutions

  • Synthesize regulatory and third party compliance requirements for first line/product teams and advise on design and implementation

  • Manage a global team based in several locales across different time zones

  • Balance critical thinking with detailed execution to help define the priorities, roadmaps, and processes to manage our enterprise compliance program.

  • Oversee a complex and highly matrixed work output of a small team.

  • Influence and mentor members of the larger cross-functional compliance team.

  • Assist Chief Compliance Officer in overall compliance strategy including investment and resourcing needs

  • Oversee corporate compliance investigations

  • Oversee and conduct the annual compliance program risk assessment and quarterly testing program

  • Prepare quarterly and annual board reports

  • Serve as a point of escalation for identified compliance issues

  • Provide oversight and quality control for compliance operations

  • Partner with Outside Counsel on evaluating emerging risks

Qualifications

About You
Ideally you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of related experience both working in-house and risk consulting/forensics.

  • Experience working at a Big Four and/or in tech is a plus.

  • Experience designing, implementing, integrating, and managing global compliance programs.

  • Compliance related certifications (e.g. CFE, CCEP-I) a plus.

  • Experienced supportive people manager that loves to lead, develop, and mentor teams.

  • Work with leaders across the business to develop governance and structure around the compliance program.

  • Experience in a fast paced company, with a history of advising in real-time in meetings, including to the C-suite, providing accurate guidance and pragmatic solutions

  • Clearly understand business priorities and objectives, and focus your work to achieve practical and effective solutions.

  • Effective communicator with executive presence. Experienced speaking with technical partners, business leaders, first line teams, in plain English, without compliance jargon. Understand how to clearly articulate risk to clients and executives.

  • Analytical and data driven in your approach to Compliance management.
