About Us

Workit Spaces is a fast-growing Australian startup – we’re building innovative ecosystems that power the booming eCommerce industry. To deliver on our mission, we provide eCommerce and Coworking Hubs and this year are launching Australia’s leading order fulfilment SaaS platform and fulfilment network: SKUtopia.

SKUtopia is a cloud-based software solution allowing eCommerce businesses to manage orders across multiple storefronts, as well as inventory, shipping, and warehousing all in one platform. On top of this, we’ll provide highly robotised 3PL services, which will use SKUtopia with our in-house leading computer vision and AI technology for fast delivery, quality control and accuracy.

Our head office is in Sydney but we have team members across Australia and are happy for you to work remotely.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced data engineer to join our team, and help set up our data and analytics function. You will use your expertise to help build and maintain data systems, pipelines, and associated infrastructure, advising on the best solutions for the product and helping us to make good strategic decisions around data.

Why is this an exciting opportunity?

As one of the founding members of the data and analytics team, this is a chance to build something from scratch. You’ll be able to use your own experiences and understanding of best practice to ensure that we’re setting things up right, and will be able to grow a happy and high-performing data engineering team. With the growth we have forecast for the next 12 months, there will be significant opportunities for you - whether that means finding your own technical niche, or becoming a people leader, there are lots of paths open to you and we’re excited to explore them all as we grow.

In your role, you can expect to be:

  • Building and maintaining data systems, pipelines, and necessary infrastructure

  • Evaluating business needs and objectives

  • Building data warehouses and data lakes

  • Exploring ways to enhance data quality and reliability

  • Identify opportunities for data acquisition

  • Developing analytical tools and programs

  • Collaborating with data scientists and the development team

About You

To be successful in this role, we think you are going to need strong data engineering skills with end-to-end project delivery experience, from scope definition, data identification, data modelling, data warehousing, production, and maintenance.

We’d like you to bring:

  • Extensive previous experience as a data engineer

  • Really strong communication skills - you'll need to be able to articulate to stakeholders what needs to be done, your strategy for the team and the investment and support needed to make it a reality

  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques

  • Knowledge of programming languages and infrastructure as code using Terraform or Pulumi

  • Hands-on experience with SQL database design

  • Cloud experience. We use GCP but if you’ve worked with Azure or AWS that’s great too

  • Experience with ML-Ops would be beneficial
