Job Description

Purpose

To curate and maintain a site that constantly creates and delivers news, interviews, podcasts, videos and other media discussing the technological and social issues impacted by the abundance and absence of high-speed fixed-broadband access networks around the world.

Areas of responsibility and accountability

Write, assign, edit and compile a mix of news stories, interviews, trend stories, and narrative features for Broadband World News and Light Reading.

Oversee the daily production of editorial content covering broadband-centric events, like Broadband World Forum and others, as assigned.

Establish a flagship editorial series -- preferably a podcast or video program -- that furthers the editorial mission of Light Reading's broadband coverage and BBWN's audience profile.

Develop and maintain an editorial calendar that fits in with the network's editorial coverage and research priorities.

Identify relevant new events and content trends and use those to help bring more relevant news and info to a wider audience. 

Work with fellow site editors in the Light Reading network to improve the performance of content, including social media and search engine optimization across the board.

 

Qualifications

Knowledge and skills

Telecom industry knowledge and/or tech market familiarity. 

Ability to set plans and manage deadlines in accordance with an editorial calendar or event schedule. 

Ability to collaborate with other publications, stakeholders in the market pillar.

Knowledge of multimedia editorial practices (video and audio).

Ability to follow editorial best practices and workflow across multiple content management systems and social media platforms.

Experience covering events and news in multiple formats (short and long-form stories, video, audio, etc.)

 

Expertise and qualifications

Accomplished writer and journalist with a demonstrated following and reputation for creating and curating compelling content for distinct, loyal B2B audiences. 

Has the ability to fluently discuss broadband industry trends, social implications, policy changes and technology observations in an engaging, clear and direct style.

Proven experience in the identification of industry trends with timely, insightful context.

A natural collaborator who can work with remote editorial teams to produce the best content possible for the audience, using all media formats available.

Strong work ethic and proven ability to take the lead in helping with all facets of the Broadband World News and Light Reading daily editorial production schedule.
