Job Description

The Senior Advocacy Advisor will increase the impact Oxfam America’s campaigns and advocacy work through the effective management and leadership of Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet Ambassador Program. The Senior Advocacy Advisor will update and modernize the Sisters on the Planet program to more effectively contribute to Oxfam’s strategic plan, evolving organizing and influencing strategy, and gender justice priorities. The Senior Advocacy Advisor will also serve as a member of Campaigns team, helping plan, coordinate and implement OUS' influential constituency building efforts.

Primary Responsibilities
Management of Sisters on the Planet – a network off 200+ influential women leaders from across the U.S. dedicated to use their voice to support Oxfam’s campaigns and advocacy work, with a focus on gender justice:

  • Identify and prioritize actions and opportunities for SOP engagement in  campaign and advocacy work, including but not limited to regular  communications with Sisters and developing and overseeing high touch events and engagement moments for Sisters to interact with Oxfam content, staff and each other (i.e. lobby days, briefings, special events)
  • Recruit and effectively manage relationships with new and existing SOPs and support advocacy advisors in their ongoing relationship management of SOPs and in recruitment of new SOPs as needed
  • Coordinate with public engagement staff on brand-related or other non-advocacy initiatives as needed
  • Expand existing opportunities for SOPs to connect with each other through existing tools/platforms or the creation of new spaces or platforms
  • Develop and execute a new strategic plan for Oxfam’s Sisters on the Planet (SOP) Ambassador program with a clearer gender justice focus, in a way that maintains and leverages existing legislative power and is flexible enough to adapt to evolving campaign needs and organizing & influencing models:
  • Update the vision for the SOP program to better reflect and support Oxfam America’s strategic plan and gender justice goals
  • Set recruitment targets, adjusting criteria and process to recruit new SOPs as needed, and oversee/support team in meeting these targets
  • Adjust relationship management model for Organizing & Influencing team as needed
  • Develop clear objectives & metrics for engagement, cultivation and other evidence of influence and ensure regular tracking and reporting on meeting these objectives; utilizing existing systems and tools (i.e. Hubspot, ROI, CongressPlus) and new CRM tools as they are available.
  • Represent the Organizing and Influencing team in campaign teams and other cross-functional teams:
  • Proactively identify and lead efforts to engage SOPs and other influential leaders in specific campaigns or advocacy spikes/moments.
  • Support other ongoing work on influentials to strengthen our ability to leverage the power and voice of community leaders and influencers, in coordination with Alliances Department as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelors degree in relevant field or equivalent required.

Experience and Core Competencies
• 6-8 years of relevant experience in advocacy, campaigning, organizing, and relationship management.
Demonstrated commitment to and/or experience in advocacy to address gender, racial and economic inequalities in the U.S. and globally.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-functional projects.
• Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to represent Oxfam and public speaking experience.
• Experience in using new technologies for education or organizing purposes.
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office Systems.
• Knowledge of the field of international development and human rights.

Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to communicate in Spanish or French.
