Job Description

The Bioinformatics Scientist, II will help support the bioinformatics and technology development teams to maintain and develop the Guardant tissue test. As a part of the Tissue Technology team, you will have the opportunity to innovate and implement your ideas to constantly improve our product and analytics so that they are best suited for the changing landscape of clinical needs. You will be part of a tightly integrated team of wet lab and computational innovators who are dedicated to creating the best comprehensive genomic profiling solution for all cancer patients. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide analytic support to Tissue Technology Development and Clinical Operations
  • Work with a variety of Technology Development scientists to design and analyze development experiments for new platforms and analytes.
  • Work with members of the bioinformatics group, medical affairs, and research scientists to conduct relevant analysis regarding clinical data and the performance of bioinformatics products.
  • Explore tissue genomic data from clinical and research samples and external annotation sources to enhance quality of clinical reporting.
  • Develop scripts for research and development activities.
  • Work together with our collaborators in industry, hospitals and academia on high-impact translational research using Guardant Health tests and publish on findings. 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computational biology/bioinformatics, genomics, machine learning, or related fields OR MS and 3+ years industry/academia experience.

  • Knowledge of cancer genomics and tumor biology

  • Knowledge of high-throughput sequencing methods
  • Experience with Human genetics and Cancer genetics databases e.g. (ExAC, ClinVar)
  • Experience using scripting languages (R, Python or Shell)
  • Knowledge of standard bioinformatics tool e.g. SAMtools, Picard, etc.
  • Working knowledge of statistical methods
  • Great communication and presentation skills, ability to present clearly and effectively to stakeholders across organizations
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Desire and ability to dig deeply through various data types to seek out answers
  • Strong team player with the the ability to work together in a team, cross-functionally, and even across institutions.
