Job Description

Main purpose

As an Application Support Engineer (ASE) you will be responsible to support our software and applications running on Windows on the AWS platform. You will be working closely with other engineers based on multiple locations in ensuring the smooth running of the applications, development and deployment of small fixes and enhancements. You will be the first point of contact for any technical and application support needs for the European time-zone.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the other engineers (developers and DevOps) around the globe, supporting the operations of our existing applications during all phases of the application development in a Windows based environment.
  • Main contact person for any technical queries raised by the team or customers.
  • Support the availability of our product during the European time-zone, triaging and troubleshooting the reported technical issues, in conjunction with multiple Verisk IT team(s) as required
  • Monitor and respond to Production server and application anomalies and performance degradation
  • Work closely with the wider DevOps, Application Support and Product teams in performing root cause analysis for any issues and the implementation of the fixes
  • Support the DevOps lead to deliver the product operation activities including deploying content updates and generating usage reports.
  • Support the implementation of production migrations in co-ordination with multiple geographic locations
  • Assist with Cloud environment setup and implementation plan
  • Support the Product team with periodic data update process and building and executing robust test processes for all the products
  • Critically examine each step of the data update process and suggest and work with the teams to implement improvements in the process.
  • Assist with the successful rollout of new LHT products internationally, ensuring that region-specific differences are maintained, documented and accounted for within datasets.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical specification and user guides for product.
  • Perform comprehensive testing of new products and services released or developed by VRR, ensuring their suitability to market–this includes manual testing and building automated test suites as needed.
  • Assist in assessing development requirements for local clients in Australia and Asia, and work with the UK team to develop any required approval requests and/ or specifications
  • Remain abreast of the market demands and competitor capabilities to understand future requirements, business needs and to identify areas for internal research and development opportunities.
  • Assist with the extraction of data and preparation of reports from our data warehouse

Qualifications

Must have:

  • 3+ years of experience in the IT industry as a software developer or application support engineer.
  • Experience with software development within the .NET platform, especially ASP.NET.
  • Knowledge of relational database technologies, with the ability to write and troubleshoot queries and basic maintenance operations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with customers and internal teams (both technical and nontechnical audiences)
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptable, flexible with proven experience of delivering quality solutions in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Capability of triaging and troubleshooting issues in software, with a high sense of responsibility and ownership.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to prioritize.
  • Good understanding of online services, internet-based systems, and SaaS applications

 

Good to have:

  • Knowledge in server administration under the Windows platform, as well as IIS concepts and settings.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and its related services.
  • Understanding of building and deployment processes.
  • Working knowledge of monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as Splunk or New Relic.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Powershell or Bash.
  • Basic knowledge of testing and related tools such as Postman.

 

You will be working very closely with the teams in the US and other international locations, therefore you MUST be proficient in conversational and written English.
