Job Description

The Consumer Search team at Wolt is looking for a senior software engineer to help build the next version of our search platform. The team is all about experimenting, developing, and fine-tuning our multi-faceted search features, including filtering and sorting, relevancy scoring, as well as taking care of the end-to-end search architecture to create the best possible search experience for our customers. The team consists of a Team Lead, Product Lead, backend and client engineers, and data functions, waiting for you to join and bring your expertise to the table.

Together with the experienced and  growing team, you’d have full ownership of search features, used already by 10+ million customers. This role is focused on hands-on development of high-quality code. In addition, you’d share the best practices, ensure the building of scalable solutions, mentor other developers, and facilitate their expertise around the search domain. With Wolt’s rapid expansion to the Retail landscape comes the ever increasing amount of data, search is becoming one of the most central pieces in enabling users to discover our vast offering, from restaurants venues to grocery stores and pharmacies, cutting across dietary preferences, product categories, etc. The challenges are not only how to effectively deliver seamless UI and UX features but also about building reliable indexing pipelines, developing self-learning ranking pipelines, improving scalability and platform reliability with ever growing data from multiple sources.

The Senior Software Engineer for Consumer Search role has the possibility to grow into Staff Engineer, with opportunities to tackle even bigger challenges that have a higher impact.

This role can be based in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki or Berlin, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Read more about our remote setup here.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate would have an extensive background in designing and building top-class software, especially similar search features at scale. A strong knowledge of Elasticsearch/OpenSearch or similar tools is a big plus. Preferably, you’d have previous experience working within the search domain at a large consumer organization. History as a coding architect is genuinely relevant as well. The team writes mainly Python (Flask, FastAPI) but we assume you can handle it with up-to-date skills from any other modern language and framework.

Naturally, excellent communications skills, capability to drive by technical expertise and get things done are crucial to the success of the role.

Additional Information

The compensation will be a negotiable combination of monthly pay and DoorDash RSUs. The latter makes it exceptionally easy to be excited about our company growing and doing well, as you’ll own a piece of the pie.
